Select Wines is proud to offer Riedel wine glasses and decanters from the famous Austrian glassmaker. The Riedel story began in 1756 in Bohemia, but it was the pioneering work of Professor Claus J. Riedel in the 1950's that ultimately re-defined stemware for wine lovers. He was the first designer to recognize that the bouquet, taste, balance and finish of wines are affected by the the shape of the glass. Riedel laid the groundwork for stemware that is both functional and beautiful--form following function.
Robert M. Parker, Jr. of The Wine Advocate makes a compelling argument for using Riedel stemware: "The finest glasses for both technical and hedonistic purposes are those made by Riedel. The effect of these glasses on fine wine is profound. I cannot emphasize enough what a difference they make."
