Szekszard, Hungary

Takler Cabernet Franc from the Szekszard region of Hungary makes a strong case for wine lovers around the globe to take notice of the renaissance taking place in Hungarian winemaking under Monarchia Wines. Takler is "Winemaker of the Year 2004" in Hungary, as voted by the Hungarian Wine Academy. Ferenc Takler and his sons have reached new heights with the special release of this 100% Cabernet Franc. Deep and rich, this wine exudes flavors of ripe plums, cherries and berries, with hints of chocolate and tobacco. Complex and bold, this wine does not hold back. Velvety tannins and a long finish complete the experience. Handcrafted especially for Monarchia by Takler Cellars, Szekszard. Approximately 300 cases of this stunning gem were produced.

Remember what the famous 1976 blind tasting in Paris organized by Steven Spurrier did for the world's awareness of California wines? In a May 2006 blind tasting in Hungary held by Borbarat, the Hungarian Wine Quarterly, nine Cabernet Francs from Hungary, France and Italy were compared. The final order of the tasting panel ranked Takler Cabernet Franc Proprietor's Reserve 2003 as the #1 wine, beating out its better known rivals from St Emilion and Chinon.
