Enjoy Dunn Howell Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon but wish it weren't quite as tannic? Long for California mountain-grown Cabernet in general but don't feel like spending $100+++ per bottle? Look no further than 2004 Serdonis Cabernet Sauvignon.

The Wine Advocate raved about the 2001 Serdonis release: "The fruit for this cuvee comes primarily from the Ink Grade Vineyard made famous by Behrens and Hitchcock. A blend of 80% Cabernet Sauvignon and the rest Cabernet Franc and Merlot, it exhibits a dense ruby/purple color as well as a fresh, lively perfume of blueberries, blackberries, flowers, lead pencil shavings, and earth. With excellent density and richness in addition to a long finish, it is a beautifully knit,... promising Cabernet. Anticipated maturity: 2007-2018. 90+" We find the 2004 to be all that and well...even more promising!

Serdonis is a classic, hand-crafted Cabernet Sauvignon--aptly, "Serdonis" is Latin for hand-worker. Winemaker David DeSante uses grapes grown at an altitude of 2,100 feet on Howell Mountain to produce just 600 cases. 2004 Serdonis is a blend of 86% Cabernet Sauvignon from Ink Grade Vineyard-Howell Mountain, 9% Merlot from Pepper Hill-Carneros and 5% Cabernet Franc from Old Sonoma Block-Carneros.

Serdonis Cabernet Sauvignon is dark garnet-purple in color with a nose of blueberry, vanilla, blackberry, cedar and pencil notes. Full-bodied with velvety tannins, this big red offers flavors of cherry, raspberry, anise, toast, vanilla and fennel, with nicely integrated oak. Sleek and elegant, it is beautifully balanced to enjoy now and over the next 15-20 years. The finish lingers with notes of raspberry and smoke.
