Chateau Beauchene Chateauneuf-du-Pape is a beautiful expression of this complex and beautiful Rhone red named for the village just north of Avignon. Chateauneuf-du-Pape (new castle of the Pope) is where Pope John XXII first built a summer residence and planted vineyards back in the 14th century. The Bernard family has lived in Orange since the 17th century. Originally tenant farmers, they profited from the social upheavals of the French Revolution, buying their first vineyard soon after the conflict in 1794. This vineyard is still present today. Since 1971, Michel Bernard and his wife Dominique run the 80-hectare estate, joined by their daughter Amandine in 2004.

Chateau Beauchene Chateauneuf-du-Pape is deep ruby red in color with a nose of raspberries, spices, vanilla and a hint of violet. Medium-full in body with moderate acidity and soft, well blended tannins, this red offers flavors of jammy red fruit, vanilla, earthy notes and hints of truffles. The blend is 85% Grenache, 10% Syrah and 5% Mourvedre from 100-year-old vines. Aged 12 months in barriques. Beautifully balanced with a rich, perfumed finish.
