What a find! This wine could easily (and generally does) sell for upward of $25 per bottle. The little brother to Antucurá, "Calvulcura" is a big, juicy, yet very layered Bordeaux blend. Antucurá means “Sun Stone” and Calvulcura means “Blue Stone” in old Mapudungun language. Mapudungun (mapu means 'earth' and dungun means 'to speak') was the language used by the Pehunenches, the first inhabitants of the area where the Antucurá winery stands today in the Uco Valley in Argentina. The owners chose that name for their winery and vineyards because the grapes grow and develop naturally between the stones and rocks. The winery sits below the Andes Mountains using ancient viniculture traditions and new vinification technologies, to produce premium wines.

Fewer than 30 cases of 2003 Bodega Antucura "Calvulcura" are available from our importer--dont' delay! A one-of-a-kind find from vineyards located 3,300 feet above sea level in Vistaflores, Tunuyan, Mendoza, 2003 Calvulcura is 60% Merlot, 40% Cabernet Sauvignon.

On the nose, the wine reveals ripe fruit aromas, with hints of vanilla, spice and just a touch of earth. On the palate it is extremely well balanced, with chewy tannins and a long finish. The rich, dark notes of boysenberries and cassis are matched by a nice acidity, and the well-structured tannins suggest an aging potential of 10+ years.
