To us, Barth Rene is the perfect Alsatian producer--the wines respect the individual terroirs involved, allowing for substantial complexity, yet are new-style enough to appeal to consumers more accustomed to fruit-bomb, new-world wines.

A 12 hectare family domaine, the Barth Rene estate is found in the commune of Bennwihr, located halfway between Kaysersberg and Riquewihr. The village was rebuilt along the " Wine Route" at the foot of Marckrain, Barth Rene's Grand Cru vineyard.

Bigger than Italian Pinot Grigio, 2006 Barth Rene Pinot Gris "Vignoble de Bennwihr" is the perfect match where most Pinot Grigios would be too light but oak-influenced wines like Chardonnay would overpower the dish.

Ripe and exotic yet crisp and mineral-tinged, 2006 Barth Rene Pinot Gris is a equally at home with a pork roast as it is with spicier fusion cuisine.
